BioCogent is proud to announce that Dr. Paul Lawrence, Executive Director of Bioscience Research, Discovery, and Scientific Communications, will lead an in-person Continuing Education Program (CEP) course for the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) at Naturally Kiawah 2026.

Taking place October 6, 2026, the course, Fundamentals of Microbiome for the Cosmetics Industry, will provide cosmetic scientists and formulators with an introduction to microbiome science—with a particular focus on the increasingly important role of the skin microbiome in skin health and cosmetic innovation.

Dr. Lawrence will explore the fundamentals of microbiology and human microbiome research, including:

• The terminology and concepts behind microbiome science
• The human microbiome and its diverse microbial communities
• The expanding understanding of the skin microbiome
• Microbial balance and the implications of dysbiosis
• Prebiotic, probiotic, postbiotic, synbiotic, and other approaches to microbiome modulation
• The concept of “microbiome-friendly” products
• Emerging opportunities and regulatory considerations in skin microbiome research

The course is designed for cosmetic care research scientists and formulators interested in understanding how the skin microbiome can be studied, modulated, and incorporated into the development of innovative products and services.

With a career spanning academia, industry, and government research, Dr. Lawrence brings extensive experience in molecular microbiology, biotechnology, and scientific communication to the course.
