Microbiome balancing for blemished skin
Grandiciin® is an anti-blemish ingredient that limits the burden of biofilm-resident Cutibacterium acnes and prevents tissue-damaging inflammation in blemish-prone skin. An Epimedium sagittatum extract rich in a beneficial mix of prenylated flavonoids, Grandiciin® delivers a potent combination of microbiome-balancing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities to the skin.
Virulent biofilm-producing C. acnes strains are more prevalent in blemished skin, driving comedone formation, increasing inflammatory tissue damage, and decreasing antibiotic efficacy in routine treatment. Grandiciin® provides anti-biofilm activity to mitigate all of these pathogenic effects. At the same time, Grandiciin® directly targets harmful inflammation by reducing six pro-inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting two key enzymes that generate inflammatory-driving eicosanoids within skin cells. Additionally, Grandiciin® also modulates the expression of 11 skin-relevant genes, including the downregulation of four collagen-degrading MMP genes to help protect against tissue damage and scarring in severely blemished skin.
In a four-week clinical trial, Grandiciin® diminished C. acnes-associated coproporphyrin III on the skin by 36% while reducing sebum production by over 25% in just two weeks. With twice-daily use, Grandiciin® visibly reduced redness and inflammation to remarkably improve the appearance of blemished skin.
